Mr Spot, thanks so much for your always quick responses. I modeled the windows for my project as simple 3d geometry and found that headers and sills wipe out the mullions and glas s in plan or rcp, if they are outside the cut plane. My solution was to adjust the visibility settings for those objects to not show in plan/rcp. The problem now is that the sill projection will not display in plan. Projecting geometry has now to be drawn in 2d. I am wondering, if it is required to have a 2d detail component family nested into each window family in order to display correctly in plan, rcp and section? Do the general view setting within the project file, like the view range and the location of the cutplane have an impact on how the window family displays? Is there a way to have model geometry like a header or sill piece and specify either plan or rcp as a display category? I am probably not the only one fighting these issues. I attached a window family file for reference. Please insert into a project wall for review. Thanks in advance. Fabian

Explain what you mean by the headers and sills wipe out the mullions and glcursein plan/rcp? When nesting 3d families into a window it is necessary to have a detail component to represent how that object cuts in plan. If its modelled in the window family it should cut appropriatly. In a project, windows only have two display options/ cut and not cut. It will not recognise the difference in cutting the window at varying levels. Plan/RCP are classed as one type of display and thus something cannot be told to be visible in one and not in the other... That said though, if your cut plane in your family is set below the header, then the header shouldn't show in plan and it will show in RCP. (PROVIDING YOU ARE NOT USING NESTED FAMILIES FOR THESE ELEMENTS) HTH.

I am not using 3d nested families. The previously attached file should document the problem. If you look at the rcp of this family, inserted into a wall, you will notice that if the modeled sill extrusion in the family is not set to be invisible in plan/rcp the mullions will not show up in the rcp view, but if the sill piece is set to be visible in plan/rcp the mullions are wiped out in the rcp view but the window sill is displayed as needed for the plan view Is there cut planes to be set in the family or project or is this a glitch? What you think? Fabian

Okay sorry, i didn't have time to look at the file before. Just looked and i see exactly what your saying. It does appear to be a glitch as the rcp gives the appearance that the cut is below the sill, and yet it shows what's cut above the sill fine?? I'd agree this is a bug... Send the example to support to hope they can fix it by the next release. As a workaround, Set your sill to the subcategory of sills then turn window--->sills off in the RCP's. We haven't had this problem as we typically don't show windows in a our reflected ceiling plans... HTH.

Thanks so much, this really helped me out. I was able to make this work, once I implemented your advice. I have another problem, but I will post that under a different topic. Thanks again, Fabian
