Is there a way to lock a model category, such as columns, so you cannot accidentally erase them?

If you pin them, they can still be erased. 

I would like to be able to drag select an area and delete everything but the columns and without turning the them off in VG.

I would use the "Filter" button. When you select all objects you can filter certain categories out of the selection.
