I created a mail slot from scratch and I can’t load it into my project. I created it under a new file and under the modeling tab, I went to create, casework…etc.

I saved it under the Casework Family category and when I load a component in and pick the file ,it says “the selected file is not a family file.” When I edit the file, it is a family file. It is a ".rfa" file.  Can you help me out? Am I doing something wrong?

Open the project you are trying to load it into, and the family file at the same time, the click on load into project (in the family file).  If you have already done this, then I recommend, resaving your file as a new name, and trying again...  If that doesn't work, then weird...

Thanks for your response.

However, the "Load into project" still doesn't show up. I saved as a different file as well and it doesnt' work either.

To create a new family file from scratch,do you just create a new file, under modelling, Create, then create a file under family category, save, then load into your project? Is this right?

When you do a family the way you are doing it, you are creating an in-place family.

Chances are you created a supposedly family with a  project template. That's the reason you cannot load it to your other project. Even if you saved it in the casework family, it still is not a family. it's a project with models. Recreated using a family template, either wall or floor based.
