Revit Architecture 2008

I'm currently working on a piece of casework that has mesh shelves that move vertically with the variable height of the unit. The mesh shelves sit within a wooden frame.

The goal is to perfectly constrain a mesh with variable Width, Depth, and Elevation (Height). The mesh is constructed with a series of equidistant parallel lines that run perpendicular to each other along the entire distance of the Width and Depth.

It is constructed with model lines constrained to reference planes.

Width....Perfect

Depth....Perfect

Elev. (Height) FAILED

I do not understand how to get the entire mesh to parametrically move vertically. I've also tried to move an array parallel to the ground plane vertically with undesirable results. I'm at my whits end with this.

I don't know how to resolve this issue.

Please help.

...The File is attached. Play with the height parameter and you will see the problem

Hi "Voron", can you put your model here to download so we can see what's going on?

Got it!  Enjoy!

The three files are:

Mesh Shelf Cabinet - Parent Family

Mesh Shelf - Shelf Family, nested into Cabinet Family

Mesh - Mesh family, nested into Mesh Shelf Family

This was necessary to get the array to work correctly.  The parent family has all of the parameters linked to control the shelf and mesh parameters.  I had to change 2 dimensions in your original model to be controlled by the "Frame Thickness" parameter in order for the shelf to work correctly.  You only need the parent family file to use this family, but I included all three so you can easily see how I constructed the family.

The issues was taht the model lines were not actually attaching themselves to a work plane (even though it looked like it), so when you changed the height of the plane the model lines were "associated" with, they didn't move.  What I did is made a family with just a model line in it, nest it into the shelf family.  This way i can control the height of the family instead of the height of the model plane.  When the height of the family changes, the model line has no choice but to move with it.

Let me know if you have any issues.  Good luck!

Need help? I'm probably in my chat room!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Thanks Rkitect!!!

This is exactly what I wanted to do. Call me simple... But to me this is the work of genius!

Thank you for showing me how. I will give credit where credit is due.
