RAC 2008

I am trying to create area schedules for residential projects that resemble the attached file.  Each schedule would be job specific, depending on whether there would be future expansion or not.  I have been trying to figure this out for a little while, but have not made much headway.

I'm not sure if I should use the "Gross Building" or "Rentable" area category; we determine our SF by figuring the area from the exterior finish.  Porches, storage areas (accessed from outside), garages, carports, balconies are all considered unheated.  Anything enclosed is considered heated.  Areas that may be finished at a later date are obviously considered "future expansion".

Any help/information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Here is what I can for help:  Create new area plan.  Using area lines, pick or place the area boundary lines where you want them, then using the room/areas tools, place an area.  Within the area properties, you can choose what "type" of area.  From what I have noticed, it doesn't really matter if you use rentable, gross, etc.  They are all area plans, this just gives you seperations between the types of areas.  You can then make a schedule, (don't click itemize every instance) with show totals clicked.  You will have to play around with this a bit more, but it will give you most of what you want...I haven't tried this, but perhaps also you can make a schedule which has the grand total of all areas, and then using a calculated value summing together the fields... As I said, I haven't tried this far along yet, and you more than likely will have to do the adding up yourself...

TABEST,

Thanks for your quick reply the other day.  I started working on this situation this morning.  After much trial and error, I think I have it figured out, for the most part, anyway.  I started with your suggestion about area types and went from there, and that seemed to be the key factor.  I added the names I specified in my post, and then by editing in the schedule, I was able to come up with a SF chart that shows the HEATED & UNHEATED SF and their individual totals, as well as the grand total SF for the house.

I think it still has a bit of tweaking to go through in the future, but for now, it shows what we need it to show.  Thanks again, I was having some trouble trying to sort it out by reading through the user's guide.

Sincerely,

Jim H.

You can do this with schedules... one for each phase.  Check out your help.
