I just downloaded the AutoCad color books for Dunn Edwards paint colors and am wondering if I can import them to use them in Revit? Thanks!

I am not sure about "importing", but you can make jpg images of the Swatches and create new materials with those images. I have been fairly successful at doing this so far.

That sounds like a great strategy - I made a jpg of the color swatch in Photoshop. Can you tell me how to load the jpeg so it's one of the selections available for paint? Many thanks, jj

I am not sure how to add it to the Render Material Library. (surely there's a way). I just begin by duplicating the Default material and mapping to the image file in the color field. There are other way I am sure, but I haven't had a chance to research how to do them. If anyone out there has been successful adding new custom materials, please let us know. I would really appreciate it. In the meantime I will continue to search for new and better ways.

I've also been playing around with the paints in 2009. It looks like paint is not a material that you can just load a swatch (which will solve the occasional tiling problem that I've had with paint swatches before). You can, however, set the RGB and the Hue, Sat and Lum properties to get a custom paint color. Seems a little labor intensive to get an entire library of colors, though. But for the time being, if you just need a few, that works and gives you a custom color. Anyone figured out how to do truly custom materials yet with our own image files?

kesflower is correct. I went back and looked at the custom paint I had made and I remember I had to define the RGB values from the swatch. It actually worked out pretty well, but I don't think I would want to create a full library that way.

I found a site that helps take the guesswork out of the RGB values to specific manufacturer paint colors, which has been a huge help for us. Here is a two way (RGB to specific manufacturer’s paint color, or manuf. paint color to RGB values) calculator to get paint colors more accurately to your screen from a particular manufacturer: http://www.easyrgb.com Not all manufacturer's are listed, but many are. So cool!

Thanks for the link. And as cool as it is that we don't have to find those values ourselves, its still pretty stinky that if I want an entire paint line to choose from, I have to do it one color at a time..... that could be potentially a LOT of paint. A work around would be lovely.

You should give the newly released "RTV Paint" plug-in for Autodesk Revit a go... With RTV Paint you can import Autocad Color Book files and then use the plug-in to automatically create these colors as Revit Paint Materials, which can then be used with the Paint tool in Revit for shaded and 3D rendered views and elevations etc. For more information please refer to the below websites: http://www.tenlinks.com/news/PR/revit_tv/011910_rtv_paint.htm http://revittv.com/

Great idea the RTV Paint plugg in.
However I don't think it works on REvit 2012. It's a shame

The RTV Paint for Revit 2012 can be downloaded from the RevitTV website, it's still free but requires an activation code.

I went to the website and found
RTV Paint ver 2011 – Windows 64 bit Installer.
So I assumed it was for revit 2011, because I couldn't install it, I just clicked the exe file and the installation was sucessful however the add in is not shown on revit
