I am trying to apply flagstone hatch I downloaded from this website for my floor on my project in Revit and it ended up all black, not hatch pattern. Can anyone explain to me how to do it properly? Also if I want to create my own hatch.. how do I do that? I've tried to do it on Revit and save it as pat file.. it won't work.. Can anyone explain to me how? Post edited on 2005-03-29 12:17:22

Make sure that when you import the pattern that you highlite the pattern name again in the box to the right of the import button. It is not good enough to just see the name of the pattern in the "name" box above. It took me a couple of months before I finally figured this out. Also, make sure you set the scale correctly. It make take a bit of trial and error. To create a hatch you can use a text editor or you can find hatch creators on some of the CAD shareware sites. Revit uses the same hatch patterns as AutoCAD with the exception of an additional header line. Most of the time you can find enough patterns to download and use for free though. Hope this helps, Tom

I am trying to do this and I cannot adjust the scale of the hatch. Both of the scale boxes are greyed out so they cannot be edited. Am I not doing something correctly?

Make sure that after you have browsed for your .pat file that you once again highlight the name of that file in the box to the right of the "import" button. Once the file name is hightlighted then the scale boxes should un-grey and the name of the pattern appear. Everything should then work. Tom

This issue seems to stump just about everyone who tries to import a pattern. I know it stumped me for days before I stumbled upon the answer as it is not obvious. I think a clean-up of the code for that dialog box in Revit is in order and long overdue. Tom

How do you import the hatch pattern and where should I store these hatches?

I've created a folder in our office library named (you guessed it) hatch patterns and store them all here. To load a hatch pattern. Go to Settings-->Fill Patterns select whether you are loading a drafting or model pattern. (drafting is 2D and thus will appear different at different scales, model is 3D and thus spacing is a fixed 3D distances and will be the same in all views regardless of scale) Select New Choose custom then browse for the file. Select the pattern in the window. Set the import scale Name the pattern Click okay. HTH.

Question about hatching, When you crate a hatch pattern in Revit, I can view it fine all 2D views, but when I drop a camera and look at a perpective shot(Hidden LIne), the pattern becomes black. Any fixes to that problem?

Make sure you are using a model pattern as opposed to a drafting pattern.
