I am working on an interior improvement project.  It is a small building that is was completely gutted out.  My interiro walls are just the studs and the exterior walls are the stud plus exterior sheathing.  I created all of them as existing.  I then created a 5/8" Gypsum wall that i ran along the interior of every room.  For some bizarre reason, a few of these walls (see red arrows on NC Floor Plan PDF) do not show up when I print.  They all look fine in the view.  One of the walls (red cloud) does not show up when I export to CAD (that I can fix with a simple line but its bugging me).

the other problem I am having, is with NEW WINDOWS being placed in EXISTING WALLS.  The windows on the south side of the building cut the wall and leave a sill - they also cut the wall in the demo plan.  The windows on the north and east do not do the same.  The walls are the same in all 3 cases and the north & south windows are the same.  these are all in blue bubble on pdf.  I have spent over 3 hours trying to figure out what is wrong - maybe a 2nd or 3rd pair of eyes can help.

This is what drives me crazy about Revit.  It works wonders and then some parts that are exactly the same as others dont.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Let's see if the model will attach - one more try!

Is there a better way to do TI?  Anyone out there have a best practices method for new construction finish on exisitng walls?

Thanks.

i don't have access to revit right now. did you try to take a look with a section. Maybe the finish is placed on the wrong "side" of the wall face and hidden with the existing phase. Only a guess. HTH good luck.

I have found that 90% of the problems we experience are not really program problems but procedural problems because we still don't understand all of the "rules".   When we finally discover what we did wrong, the answer is usually obvious.

I have not yet figured out why what is happeneng is happening but I think it has something to do with when you created elements.  If you change the windows on the south side that show "a sill" to existing then back to new, the sill goes away.  Also if you copy one of these windows in the same wall while in the new phase, it too will not have a sill.

BTW - The "sill" you say should be there, really should not be there.  If you look at your CAD dwg, that line is an existing wall line.  Edit your window family so that it has a sill line if you really want one.

My export to CAD had the interior finishes and the missing wall.  I don't know how or why yours did not.

Why do you add an opening inside your windows in the "new wall".  You don't need to do that.  Just join geometry selecting the existing wall and the "new" wall and the windows will cut both.

Thanks so much for checking this out for me.  Yes, I agree - I did something different to the south windows than to the north ones.  I too copied a south window over to the right in the same wall and it did not have a sill.  When I say sill, I mean that you see the wall below and that would be a light exisitng line.

I did try to join the geometry of the two walls, but what that does is remove the lines between the existing and the new - it then just looks like a new wall altogether.  Our graphic standard (which may have to change) is to show both sides of the gypsum board to indicate that that piece is being added to the side of a wall.  I figured putting in openings locked to the windows and doors was the best solution for having 2 walls.  I agree with you it would work better in the long run but not sure if it meets our needs graphically - this is a school project in California and all drawings must meet the standard of the District State Architect - they are picky about how things are presented.

I would love to hear from anyone out there that does a lot of TI or restoration work in Revit - how are you handling it?

Thanks for your reply WW - I will keep at it - will let you know if I figure it out.
