Hello, I'm new to drafting and I'd like to start learning asap. I'm having a hard time choosing what to learn though. Should I go with autocad or straight to Revit? Thanks

if you have gotten this far in life without having to use Autocad, then go straight to Revit.

To answer this question one should look at the area they want to work. If you work in an area that is predominately AutoCAD then I would learn that first or if it dominated by Revit then learn that one first. The area I work in is becoming more saturated w/ the usage of Revit, but there are still many firms out there using AutoCAD. Aside from those firms that are one or the other, they are also many firms that are using both. The firm that I work in is using both AutoCAD Arch. and Revit Arch. so I have to be able to support both of them and some of our drafters had to learn both. I think in my opinion I would learn Revit first since I believe that it is much easier to learn than AutoCAD, (my opinion, I know it might not have been easy for those of us who were using AutoCAD for 20 years.)I would not however, disregard AutoCAD. Reason being, many of the clients, consultant that you might work with will not know or have a desire or need for Revit and it is very good for you to know the software that they are working with and how to handle the file types that they will be using. Not to mention knowing both makes you much more marketable. HTH
