you have to turn on worksets and enable worksharing before you can make a file a central file.

the button will still be grayed out, but it will be checked. this will become a central file whether you like it or not.

This process is callled worksharing. there is Revit tutorial on this if you have not done it yet. It may be of help.

thank you

i could save a central file without enabling any worksets.just set the desired location folder for a central file in settings/options/general/user paths, and it allow me to select the box "make the file central after saving"

I hope there will not be problems after this workaround.

i don't if there will be any problems. there is a certain amount of information that Revit puts in default worksets when worksharing is enabled. whether or not this will be affected i don't know. keep us informed on how things go.
