main question: is there a way that you can lock text to an object, so when you move an object, text associated with the object also moves?

what I would really like to do is create a section marker where the text will rotate so it always has the same relationship to the section head.  (see attached picture.)  I'm having difficulty with this, as it seems that revit wants to make all the labels in my section head family rotate automatically in my project so they are perpindicular to the section cut, whereas I would like them to stay parallel.  any suggestions?  I was thinking if there were some way I could "lock" the labels to the reference plane for the section line so they would rotate together, I could make this work.

sure, draw some reference lines (I usually use a cross through the center of the text), then click on the text, and the reference lines, and make this a group.  You can now dimension (angular and normal to the reference lines) and the text remains relative to the reference lines.

I forgot to mention where, sorry, what I said needs to be done in an annotation family, I use a Generic annotation, and then I bring that into whatever it is that needs it.  If you want the text to change, then make it a label of whatever type you are going to display (length, area, text, etc.).  Once it is loaded into the family where you need it, you can rotate it, and when you click on the symbol, and go to element properties, you can associate the "text" value to something in your family using the little gray button.  Let me know if you need more aid, and sorry about the lack of clarity previously.

TABEST,

Could you possibly post an example of what you are talking about. I have been trying to do it for a while and can't get it to work.

I think this one has it in there... this is the door tag that we use, we can create types to match angles with our doors... and allows italic or not indicating fire rated door or not...

How do you create all constraints between the reference lines in the group (refer to attached image)? I've tried to re-create the tag you have posted but I'm not able to get padlocks in all the positions you have.

typically i just use the align tool, then lock it.  can also use the pick tool to draw the line and ceck the constrain box on the options bar.  hope this helps.
