Thanks for that link coreed!

I gave it a try and I think if developed properly it could be useful. It is definitely a different way of searching for me.

My only questions are:

Am I really going to take the time to "doodle" something using an application that seems to be a watered down version of paint and hope that the search engine can decipher what I was trying to draw?

Am I going to create a 3d object and use that as a search object rather than just complete it and use what I have made?

I imagine if the library was to grow large enough that it would be nice to use my families as search objects to see what else is out there rather than search through the CSI divisions on a multitude of sites.

I can definitely see the benefits of this for  manufacturing industry no question about that, but I think it would have to be rather developed, intelligent, and loaded with good quality content (preferably restricted for who can upload) for this to really have a benefit over the traditional way of searching.

Again thank you coreed for this post, I thought it was extremely interesting.

One more thing about this.

I do really like the possibilities of the image option.

I like the thought of being able to browse a manufacturer’s website and downloading a few pics and then use those as search objects.  But again, it would have to be a pretty intelligent search engine to recognize what the object is in the picture.

It did a decent job of tracing some cabinetry pictures that I had so I could see it working out in the future.

I would encourage people to try it at least and see what they think about it.

I am curious to hear what other people are thinking.
