I have only been using Revit 2008 for a little over a month now and would like to create a custom profile for metal cladding for a wall sweep. I have followed all of the steps in the help menu but when I attempt to apply that sweep in the edit assembly window, it keeps giving me an error message that reads "Invalid compound structure". I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, if anyone has any tips on how to do this or what I might be doing wrong, I would welcome any and all suggestions.

ok, with profiles, if you aren't careful, you can get the error that you are getting, what this means is that you either have overlapping lines (profile families follow the same rules as profiles for sweeps, must be closed loop, cannot intersect each other etc.).  Double check your profile to ensure that no lines are overlapping, and that you do indeed have a closed loop.  Also, you can't have a closed loop within a closed loop (like you can with extrusions and floors, etc.).  If you can't find the problem, I recommend deleting all of your profile lines in the family, and redrawing it, being careful not to leave openings, etc.  If you are still having problems, then start a new generic family, create a sweep solid (or void, it doesn't matter) and then draw the profile you desire, within this object.  If it is an invalid profile, you will get clearer (but not much) error messages.  Once you get a profile that works, just copy the profile lines to clipboard, and then paste in your profile family, and now you should have a working profile.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I think I have it solved now. Now I can stop beating my head against the wall.
