If you notice in the photo there is a fireplace with a 45 degree wall....I am trying to dimension this wall. What is the process for dimensioning this wall?

Good practice is not to dimension this on the angle - just dimension the x & y...

but if you must, start the dimension command, put your curser at the point you want to dimension from and keep hitting the tab key until you see a tiny dot at that point .... then do the same at the other end.
