Revit 2008: I am trying to make a new View Title family for the new title block I've created.  The firm I work for is transitioning from CAD to Revit so I wanted to make the sheets look as close to our standards as possible.  Our current View Titles have detail numbers that correlate to the placement on the sheet defined by a grid.  So the left grid lines are defined by letters A to E and the bottom grid lines are definded by numbers 1 to 6.  I'm sure it's familiar to many firms.  For example, a detail that is placed at the bottom left would be A1 but a detail that is placed in the top right would be E6.  Is there anyway to make the View Title family calculate this or is there any way around this problem? Thanks for the help.

We do the same method to assign a loacation number to views.  You will have to manually enter the letter & number combination under detail number in the element properties of the view.  There is no way that i have found to automate this.  Whenever you add a new view to a sheet, revit will automatically increase that detail number by 1.  In our case, it will NOT increase the letter or number - it will just reset back to 1 when you add a new view.

When i did due diligence a year ago comparing Revit to ArhiCAD, we did notice that ArchiCAD has a much better layout manager.  It allowed you to assign a number to the boxes on your sheet and then if you move/rearrange them, it will renumber your view.  Revit is very much behind in "presentation" capabilites in terms of layout.  It is very cut and dry and not very flexible.  We also include a comment field in pour view title, but as a system family - revit only allows specific fields that you can place in a view title family.

Best advice - this is a new system - try to match your CAD methods, but always know that with this change to how we design and draft, that you will have to change the look and feel of how you present.
