Hello, I am a newbie here, but so far I have looked around the site, it is wonderful. You guys have solved some of my problems with revit.

I am working with Revit 2008 and came across a problem recently. All of my sections view names have disappeared, I cannot see them on the floor plans views nor sections views. In the navigator table I can see  names of the sections also on the element properties list the view name under identity data is indicated. I have checked the Visibility table but everything relevant was checked - at least relevant to me. It is not a big problem I cannot live with, just seing the sections names will be more convenient.

Anyone have a hint what is wrong? Thanks.

It sounds like you placed your names inside the view.  (AutoCAD habit?)  That is not how it is done in REVIT.  The view name is placed automatically on the sheet when you place the view.  This is a much better process because it allows REVIT to keep track of everything.

Look in the help under View - properties and you will find there can be two names associated with a view.  The view name in the browser and the view title when the view is placed on a sheet.  They can be the same (the default) or you can have them be different.

Hello WWHub,

thanks for replying. In fact I have not changed the names of sections, I haven´t touch any of their settings so far.

I have typed section name under title on the sheet /identity data on the elements properties table/, but neither this name appears on the sheet.

My collegues also have this problem from a certain point of time, we have few licence versions and load the project templates from a common server. I was wonderig whether there can be some problem in the template file or its settings.

Do you have a view title loaded in your project?

Views can be placed with no view title or with the view title family of your choice but they have to be loaded in the project.  When you click on a view while on a sheet (but not in the view), your options bar will change and on the left side, it will say" Viewpor: (Name of your view title)".

We usually have several different view titles loaded and like everything in REVIT, you can swap these by using the pull-down in the options bar window.

We use a custom setting for naming the views on sheets. The view title appears when placed on a sheet. I have attach a printscreen picture what is my problem - the view name under ID data does not appear on the views.

It is obvious from your image that this view has not yet been placed on a sheet.  Therefore, you can't title it!

Place it on a sheet and all will be there.

Hi, thanks WWHub, this way it worked. When I have put the section on a sheet its name appeared automatically also on the view. Is that right, that each section must be placed first on a sheet and just then its name appears on the view?

Yes, the field you are looking at is the name on the sheet.  If it's not on the sheet there is no name yet.  NOTE that this field exists because sometimes you want a more descriptive name in your browser that is different than the name on the sheet.
