Is there a standard filing system used to organize revit projects? Our company is trying to implement a filing system standard that will help organizes revit files as well as projects. The company is moving away from an AutoCAD based filing system and within that system we have subfolder that includes design phases. Any suggestion or comments welcome.

Thank you

For projects there is one file per project. Name the file based on its phase SD, DD, CD.

For Families: Use the file structure provided by Revit. Name your files what they are. Take a look at how people name their files in the downloads section. If you want custom content to show up first use a prefix that will place the new files above the standard content. (-_0)

In Revit, you do not want to move your file from folder to folder (SD to DD to CD). Create a folder called central file and place your central file, or files (if you split your building into core and shell) there. Have your staff create their local files and save them on thier "C" drives (my documents) - not on the office drive with the central file.(this helps with saving to central)

You do not want to move the central file - it breaks the pathway to the locals.

Create a Revit library on your office drive. Reset, the all of the pathway links (settings>options) to this library- instead of each persons "c" drive. As you build your library, you do not want people loading imperial library components willy-nilly. You also, want to create and link to your own template file will all of your typicals loaded in.
