When using Revit to alter existing spaces, it is often the case that room tags are needed in demolition plans and in new work plans and the sapce are often altered due to renovation work (such as sub-dividing an existing space into smaller spaces).  How can these spaces be created to display an existing room designation in one view and then be altered to show new spaces and tags in another view.  Does it have to do with the way the phasing options are created?

By using phases Revit will allow you to place room tags into an existing plan and into a new plan. The room numbers can be the same and what not.

The picture below show existing on the left and new on the right.

All you have to do is duplicate you views and set the phase property to show you new or existing and set the phase filter appropriately
