I have been having fits trying to get a "shading with edges" site plan to plot.  The plot file jumps from 7 megs to 82 megs when I switch to "shading with edges."  Apparently because it has to be plotted as a Raster File.  It shuts down my network print spooler and will not plot at all.  I can plot to a PDF file, but the site survey (an imported dwg file inserted into the site) has parts of words and notes lopped off in the PDF.

I am really fond of "shading with edges" since it gives a sense of realism without trying to be a rendered photograph.  What good is it if I can't print with it?

Any recommendations for printing "shading with edges" views other than don't do it?  I thought the PDF would be the "work around" but that is no good if only parts of the sheet get plotted.

I almost always use plot to pdf to print out rastered images for the same reason., so I'm not sure why you're having part of your imported drawing "lopped off" by the plot to pdf command.  Do you have a scope box around your site plan?  Do you have the site plan placed on a sheet with all of the elements you want to print on the sheet?  Are you printing to the appropriate sized pdf?  The only time I've had issues with things getting cut out of plots has been when I've not fully defined what I want printed.  Using sheets to define the print area is a great way to make sure its all there.  Also, before you print, does the print preview show the elements you want?

Yes, the print preview shows everything, yet the PDF has sneaky little "lop offs" scattered all over the sheet.  It is not like one edge didn't print.  It is the right half of a note is missing toward the bottom middle and then half a word is gone on a note towards the top right, etc.  On elevations, level lines dissappear while the rest of the elevation is fine.

I understand that importing dwg's is not nearly as seamless as advertized by Autodesk.  Others on this board have warned against trying to bring in notes, dimensions, complicated lines, etc. as an inserted .dwg.  The wierd thing here is if I get rid of "shading with edges", the inserted survey dwg plots perfectly.  If I change back, random things dissappear on the survey.  Not edges like it got cropped but random pieces of text just dissappear.

....  You're not gonna like this....  We had a problem like that happen with some imported CAD drawings once.  The only way we found to fix it was to rewrite all of the notes in Revit.  I would NOT reccommend exploding the CAD drawing as that will only make the problem worse and your Revit file huge.

Maybe someone else has another way of resolving the issue, but I think redrawing is your best bet.  Tedious, yes.  Annoying, unquestionably.  Will it fix the problem, yes.

Good luck.
