I want room names w/ numbers in most views, but on one plan I want to used room tags w/ area.  If I change the tag type, it's changing the tags in all the views.  Is there any way to do this?  Or, can I create an additional tag that would giv me only the square footage (no name or number)?  I would rather not create a separate area plan that I will need to keep updating.

Your thoughts are correct .... just create a new type.  We have several types in our family with a visibile switch for the various parameters.

You can also create a new family that looks at the same information.  Good time to learn about parameters.

Ok...but if I add a room tag w/ area only to the single plan, how to I get it turned off in all the other plans?

You can turn off all tags using VG.

BTW - an easy way to do tags is to do them in one plan .... lets say it's architectural - window the plan - filter it for room tags - copy to clipboard - paste them in your other view (maybe furnishings ... electrical).  While they are highlighted, you can change their type to the type you want.
