What is the best way to create my own objects that I want in Revit? Currently I've been experimenting with Inventor and importing the stuff I make in it to Revit but I just wanted to check to see if there was an easier or better way to do it?

what type of objects are you talking about. revit has the family editor for making components and the building maker tools for creating mass and in-place familys/objects.

If you want furniture that you can use in multiple projects, I'd make a new family. There are a couple of benefits to that, but the one I like most is that you can change the family remotely and then reload as needed. You can also turn the furniture on and off using your visibility/graphics. You can do that with masses too, but I find the set up to be a little less tedious if I just turn off all furniture families.

I am creating a train station and want a light rail train that I invented in the program "Inventor." How do I import that train into Revit? Or further more, how do people create families?

You can export out of Inventor to the new .adsk format which is a valid family format inside of Revit. Can't remember if their is a plug-in that you need to download for this purpose in Inventor or not. You will also need to watch the orientation of the x,y and z axis inside Inventor as they differ from the standard Revit orientation. Check the Inventor help file for more information.
