Ok I really need to figure this one out because this instance occurs throughout our project.  I've created a very oddly shaped roof with the IN PLACE FAMILY tool and created it using a sweep.  Is there any way to join this type of roof now?  I have it set to roof category and I can connect walls to them.  But not roofs to roofs.  Ref: to picture attached.  Thanks

When you say 'Join roofs', you mean using the 'Join roofs Tool'?

Im not sure you can do that, as when you start modelling in-place you boycott those kind of features. But if its inplace, cant you just work the geometry to fit the roofs together?

Everything is possible if youve chosen the in-place route!

Yes I could do that, but it will take many voids and small portions of my roof in my model to get it to look right.  I didn't know if there is another way to do this?  Again the roof is very oddly shaped and will be joining, changing angles etc. throughout the project design.  Any suggestions/ideas?

In which case massing sounds like the best option. This will also mean your roof will have layers and such.
