I'm looking at building a beam girder with bar joist beam system roof frame. There is an established slope of 1/4" to 12". I want to know the best approach to placing frame members to follow the slope of the roof. I'm aware of setting a work plane and using the bottom of deck to set steel. However, the beams will be placed perpendicular to the plane as opposed to plumb (vertical) and rotation would be involved. Is it still the best way? I did try building the roof flat and adjusting the top of steel elevations. I did that for a portion of the roof. The top of girders and columns are at the correct caculated elevation, but the beam systems (bar joists) did not adjust with them. What is the best approach to laying these out?

Hi minfante Im not sure if I understand completely but beam systems can be hosted off workplanes, which is a way of sloping beams. Is this what you mean? It will mean that when you change the pitch of the roof the beams will move with it. There a raft of other restrictions with beam systems though, it may not be perfect in your case. Hope this helps!
