Anyone out ther keen to a lableing system maybe related to NBIMS that suggests how to label 2D Detail Views? My boss has a problem with the fact that the blue hyperlink symbol familes track there text / sheets globally and he wants to know how to do this with that good ol' "Standard Details and Notes" Sheet... I sugested we build a 2D family detail IDENTIFYING 2D... A symbol in say GREEN so they STAND OUT... elaborating there will only be a few so when we are in advanced CD you just cross check GREEN sheet # and detail # to make sure the match...

Why not load/ link in the standard details and use actual links? That would keep the file BIM and update them automatically... Otherwise I guess you could do what you are sugesting. Its just that if you start applying that same mindset and methodology to other parts of Revit you are going to lose the Information aspect of BIM. Nick

Hey N - I must missing sumthin' I do link, but that links to dxf/dwg CAD right?... but I dont get where symbols come into play. So maybe I have a standard ADA detail that is on all projects but different sheets in each project - but I want to show a 'Hot" detail bubble, callout or section that can change globally if I change sheet # or??? Stuff like that... Everthing else normally BIM will be modeled and/or detailed BIM in view cuts w/ drafting tools. I am hoping there is something I dunno' JC

I guess I am somewhat confused by what you are asking. You said that the bubble refers to the same detail on different sheets accross projects. So how do you reference them back to the same bubble? If you are refering to multiple models that share the same details, then you have 2 basic options. Load them into each model and update the location, etc in each model, or you can do what you are sugesting and use dummy callouts that all refernce a seperate project. To me it's about the same amount of work either way and I woud prefer to keep things from heading the dummy callout way. I know from experience that once somebody starts drafting in Revit it turns into a glorified CAD program. To top it off then they wonder why they arent seeing any time and functionality improvements over cad.... I guess thats just my soapbox after working on a project that ended up that way. Or if you want to keep some control you could just create a family with a type for each detail (name the type: ADA Room Sign, etc), then you could update the one family, load it into all of the projects and select overwrite parameter values. I would think that this would get rid of most of your user errors. Personally I would multi link them, but like so many other things it comes down to the individual or company's preference. Sorry if I totaly missed what you are asking. Perhaps screen shots, .pdf, etc would be more helpful in explaining it. Nick

Hey N, first off thanks so much for the quick reply and your time. I just don't know how to get a callout or symbol for any link. So 4 example if I place a linked or non-link drafting view on a sheet of a CAD detal, then I have now way of referencing it on the model where it exists... does that make sense? Maybe thats the difference "Drafting View" as opposed to a load/link in a cut view?

Yeah we have a whole process for linking details. The basics of the Revit portion is create a new drafting view, LINK the file in (you have to check the link otherwise its just a dumb block that wont update) and then sheet it (per company standards). You have to do this for each individual detail but then it allows you to use the refernce other view box and actully refernce the detail. I am also pushing to get rid of all CAD cross references between details. I would rather have live Revit links that update. It eliminates some possible errors down the line. Also you can transfer drafting views from one project to another. Staffor mentioned something about being able to do that with entire sheets but I have yet to find a wy. HTH Nick
