Hello

I have been working with Revit Arch. 2008 off and on for a few months, and I created the start of an office template.  I created several stair setups (joist size, clg. hts., desired # of risers, actual tread depth); when I go to create a set of stairs in a plan, all I really need to do is specify the top level and the width of the stairs.  My question is not:  was this necessary, overkill, or user preference?  I'm not looking for an answer per se, more interested in opinions.  Thanks.

Usually we just have one stair - the code minimum. If you need different stairs then they are created on a case by case basis. The larger your template is, the slower every project will be until you purge the unused items.

I agree with cganiere, we have about 2 types in our template, open tread, closed tread. What we do is, if we create a new type in a project,  at the end of the project copy it to a new project file called Stair types.

Just go to a floor plan and copy and paste into into a project file that contains all your stair types. It keeps a record of them, but keeps em out of your template. You can then copy and paste back into a new project if someone needs them and they can see all your examples at once.

There is in fact a file under the "Revit Help and Instruction samples" on the revit content website

http://revit.autodesk.com/library/html/index.html

that has Stair, railing and roof examples, this is just like ours.
