New Revit user (Revit 200Shadey.  I have not set up my own customized template yet, and I keep forgetting to start a project using the commercial and/or residential template.  The default template does not contain some of the standards that the others do (ie; commercial stair templates).  Is there a way to update the default template to the commercial template, or a custimized template?  If not, what is the best option.  I assume the standards are stored someplace and I can import the specific item, but I cannot find it.   Thanks

You can transfer project standards between .rte file and .rvt files when needed.

If you have a project the you are working on currently and need to get some of the information from the commercial .rte file here what to do.

Open up both files. Go into the project (NOT THE COMMERCIAL.rte) and go FILE>TRANSFER PRJECT STANDARDS.

I would hit check none rather than take everything because the defaul.rte has about 99% of the content that the commercail one does.

Go through the list and check the boxes that you want and bingo.

After you do this, watch for any warings about duplicated content and elements being renamed numerically,

ie. Steel Pan Stair2, Steel Pan Stair3.

If/when this happens just go through the project browser and delete them out. Just make sue that they are not in use or it will delete them from the project.

HTH,
