There are a number of ways to make a front porch and it depends on the design of the porch.  Is it a elevated concrete slab on a concrete foundation?  Is there a stair the full width of the porch?  Is it wood construction with a roof and columns?  If it is a concrete porch slab, I would make a floor that is the size and thickness of the porch slab and then draw structural concrete walls below the slab.  You can then use the stair tool and draw a concrete stair.  If the stair is the full width of the porch, you could omit drawing the slab and walls and just draw a concrete stair with a top landing.  If it is wood, then you would draw a floor as a wood joist/decking assembly, draw columns and then make a roof.  If you are making a roof, you will probably want to define a level for the top of porch roof beam.

As far as the island is concerned, you would make it the same way you would in realality.  Insert base cabinets. It could be base cabinets back to back, but more often the back is a series of panels resembling doors or bead board.  In either case, you would want to make a wall type that has a finish of wood veneer.  If you want to apply panels, you will need to find or create a face-based family that is just a cabinet door.  You can then sweep a base profile around the bottom.  For the counter, it probably would be easiest to just draw an in-place family and make an extruded solid.  If the counter is to have a shaped edge, you will need to do a void sweep around the edge.
