I am starting a project where it seems every wall has a different type of interior finish (like about 15-20 different conditions) - additionally, existing finishes will be removed from existing walls. Anyone have experience to describe the best way to accomodate a) different interior finishes on same wall core, and b) providing for cd documentation of finish removal (ie dashed lines) while leaving the core wall intact. Thanks for any info! Post edited on 2005-03-07 19:30:03

a) If you wish to show the various thicknesses in plan view then i'm afraid you will have to use different wall types for each. If you just want to show a different material in elevation you can split face of the wall and use the paint tool to apply the different material. b) Unfortunately you cannot currently demolish individual layers of a wall. In order to show this you would need to build two separate walls, one for the finish and one for the core, this way you can demolish them separately.

Yow (it is what I feared then!) For the demo then, to avoid a phasing nightmare, I think you're right, two separate walls. Bummer, I'm using Revit to try to simplify my CD's! Thanks for the input.

I am creating the wallls as I go along with this naming convention: Basic Wall: frp gb 2x4 es ws (FRP on gyp bd on 2x4 on exterior sheathing on wood siding.) Basic Wall: frp gb 2x4 pw ws (FRP on gyp bd on 2x4 on plywood on wood siding) etc. Should be easier to keep track of all those wall types, being able to visually associate wall types in the pulldown starting with finishes first. Nifty or a nightmare? Anyone have their own system that works? It seems like Revit is better geared to all new construction... There's lots of overhead to take care of on a 30 year old building with tons of little additions...
