Hello, I'm new to the site and to Revit. I'm wondering.. how is the job market for Architectural drafters? Are all the jobs going overseas? and what is the prefered software? Revit or autocad?

Thanks,

Vanostran

vanostran,

I too am located in the Portland/Vancouver area. That is if you are talking about Oregon and not Main. What I have found is that the smaller firms out here are just know starting to use REVIT. I have used it in two different firms but the only reaqson it was used is because I talked them ito it and converted them. Once they saw it there was know terning back. They were very impressed and will always continue the use. I have started my own buisness and for the cleints I have had they loved what REVIT produces. Revit has great possibilities and plans can be produced with vertualy no misstakes. I have also found that the smaller firms have not been doing many renderings...However I have found a few that have been interested and when they saw what the possibilities are they were hooked. I realy think RENDERINGS in this area will be marketable in the near future. In my search for work and cleints in this are I have only found a handful of small to mid sized firms that are using REVIT. I beleive that REVIT is growing out here and soon many will be looking to convert. Washington has a few REVIT jobs further north. If you are interested in larger projects and larger firms...I have heard that many of them out here have been using REVIT as well as other programs...SO my thought is that if you have Commercial, Indust., school, highrise, ect. experiance, or the interest, then you could get a job with a larger firm.

I would suggest that sense you are at the begining of you career to Specialize in REVIT and keep up on your Autocad skills. If you know both you will be more marketable.

Hi Jed. Thank you for your response. yes, I'm in Portland, Oregon as well. Southwest Portland or Beaverton. I still don't know which it is. Your advice was helpful. I'm still trying to get my bearings in this industry. I have been using Cad and Architectural Desktop and have just started watching the DGcad Revit tutorials. Looks to be a really interesting program and I hope to master it. Thanks again.

Take care,

Vanostran
