I am trying to create a custom sink which will cut a void for itself out of its host (the countertop). I have tried cutting a void out of the host face ain the family, as well as creating a void form around the sink, also in the family. In both cases, The sink will not cut a hole in the face of the countertop when placed. any suggestions?

This is one of those odd ball issues. Families dont push/ pull voids to the model unless it is to a specific host. You can either create a countertop family with sink voids (or even sinks) nested into it, or you can just cut the countertop with a void. If the countertop is a family then you would have to add the voind in the family. You can write out some formulas (actuallys it is fairly complex and annoying, but doable) to turn the void "off/on". Basically you just throw the void outside of the countertop mass when it is off and into the countertop when its on.

In general if you want a void linked it needs to be in the same family. You can try the cut/dont cut but Ihavent been successful useing that between families/ model elements.

It seems that a void family (sink with a void in it) will cut a system family (a wall/floor) but not a custom family (countertop etc). I am currently trying to figure this out...

any comments?
