I was wondering if it is possible to make a double door family in revit which would let me tag both doors in the one family? The office wants to tag both doors because of the different options we could have on the two doors. I was wondering if this in possible or is there anything I am missing that I could do to achieve the same detail.

In order to achieve this you will need to make the two panels as nested families. I make doors this way so I can switch out different panels. You will need to create the panel as a seperate family. In that family go to Settings-->Family Category and Parameters and check mark the box labled "Shared". You will then load that family into the host family. When this is complete you can load it into the project. This will allow you to tag the individual families seperately. I just breifly tried to explain this so if it is confusing let me know and I will help out as much as I can.

RAC 2008 James -- I would be very interested in this approach. I've been working with Revit for several months, but I am just now getting into making my own families, so nesting families is like rocket science to me. Any help you could throw my way would be appreciated. I am also trying to come up with a solution to tagging multiple unit windows and doors. In AutoCAD, we could add text to our attributes to show, for example, we were using a 2'-8" x 5'-2" Triple window unit. My limited knowledge of door and window tags in Revit has me at a distinct disadvantage when trying to solve this problem. Thanks for any help you can provide. Jim Hectorne

If you want to compile a compound family just load the component families into the host and place them using the component tool. There are many uses for nesting families which include making a compound family. One rule of thumb is if you want to tag each part seperately then the nested families need to be set to "Shared" in the 'Family Category and Parameters' box. If you are going to nest a family and need to attach parameters for flexing, you will not be able to have it shared. I am attaching an example of a double window that I made using two single windows. In this case the single windows are non shared because I wanted to be able to make different sizes and I needed to tag this family as one unit. Let me know a little more about what you are trying to acheive and I would be glad to help where I can.
