I created a curved roof using an ellipse that I split and then trimmed down to about a 1/4 of the original ellipse size.  I am now going through my project dimensioning everything and the dimension tool won't give me a dimension for my curved roof.  Is there any way I can dimension an ellipse?

Thanks,

Dominic

I havent tried it with elipses ,but you can dimension to something else and then to both sides of a circle. After you get the dim line started you should be able to remove the 3rd entity from the dim line.

Are you trying to dim the arch length, radius, or what exactly?

Hey Dlicata,

I have a "Dumb Dimension" family that might be of some help to you for this situation. It will allow you to override the dimension with another dimension value or it will show you the actual dimension. You can also override the dimension value with text. It also has a bottom note option as well as different arrow styles, though you might want to change the arrowhead styles as I made them a little "odd' so I can tell when it is being used in a project at our office.

Let me know if you would like this and I will email it to you.

DLicata,

Is it something you can post to this thread (or to the downloads and then signal this thread with the link)?  I'd love to have your dummy dimension, too!

I can e-mail them to you rascal if you'd like, I just need your e-mail.

I don't know exactly how to load them into my project... if anyone could tell me that would be great, thanks. Smile

Open up your project, file - load from library - load family. Find the family and select open. I am assuming that this is probably a generic annotation so you would place it in your project by going to the drafting tab and selecting symbol. That should come up with a list of all symbols loaded into the project (the fake dim should probably be the defualt if it was the last one loaded/ used).

By the way, generally its just best practice/ proper to let the person that originally created the family chose to share it on here or with another individual. You probably dont want to step on any toes by sharing something that someone else created without their permission, unless they already posted it to a free website (i.e. revitCity or AUGI, etc.)

Thanks, I got it loaded in.

I understand your concern but I had already thought about that and thats why I didn't just go and post what Brett gave me up in this thread.  I was going to ask his permission through e-mail but I guess he'll already see this and then he can share it with everyone else or with whomever he wants if he so feels like it... I'm not giving anything out, if anyone wants what Brett has then ask him.  Thanks again Brett for the help! Smile  and I never ment to step on anyones toes...

Wasnt trying to scold or anything. I just wanted to make sure that Brett was ok with it....

Guess we'll just have to wait for a response from him. Smile

Can I ask how you trim and manipulated the ellipse?  I am a newbie to Revit, and I have been working mostly in the 2D realm.  I have been working on a floor plan of a piece of millwork that is an ellipse, and have been having a horrible time manipulating, trimming, dimensioning, etc.  Any tips?

Sorry again.
