I was just looking at that myself. I have not done a ton of this type of modelling so some experimenting is required.

Daryl,

Awesome!

Lunchtrayrider great idea, but I'm a little unclear how that works.

And if I have a precast coping on top of the brick and stucco base should I use a wall profile or a Host wall sweep? I played around with both. A host wall sweep can be mitered back.  A wall profile, using the "wall sweep style dialog", in a stacked wall I couldn't drag the profile face to miter back. I could select the face and extend it, but not miter it? That's as far as I got. And I don't know with is better from overall project management aspect ie: the boss decides he hates all the trim/copings and wants to change all the profiles.... I want to set up all profiles and foam trims as parament and manage them by style or type. So I could then create a schedule of all the profiles, except the precast (because that should be a precast schedule only, and not have to concern myself too much over the quantity of different trim profiles as each individual building is different that we do.

Thanks,

I'm a little unclear on how it works too.  But I would say wall profile it should mitre back if you have the same profile in the wall around the corner.  So if the base profile goes around the whole building it should work fine.  If dgcad gives up (i doubt that) i'll post what I did.  Its not exactly the best way to do things.

lunchtrayrider,

Looks great. Could you post the file? I'd like to see how it's defined.

Thanks,

David

David I have started back into this. Do you have a photo(s) of a finished version of the building (or similar) perhaps? Something that shows the vertical.

Daryl,

Yes, I do and I'll upload the photos tomorrow when I get into work. On a side note, I can't find any how-to's on creating revit light fixtures?

will you be coming out with some revit video's on that?

Thanks,

David

Daryl,

This is similar to the framing photo. Mainly cementitious finish over densglas sheathing over metal stud buildout.

Since the detailing is similar but the framing offset is variable, it would be nice to control that with one wall style. I thought I saw that feature in the wall dialog on a earlier revit version?

Thanks,

Great photo thanks. I have been experimenting with different compound wall combinations with embeded curtain systems / store fronts. The challenge right now seems to be with wall corner 'cleanups'. This picture gives me a much better impression of the final product in the vertical. I will work at it some more. If anyone else wants to contribute, . . feel free.

After looking at the image, I think I would use three walls as my image shows.  You can join the walls together too so the heavy lines go away.  I left them there so you can see the seperation better.

Lunchtrayrider,

That's exactly what I had to do to get the brick base & wall coping to clean up and it allows changing the depth of the build out. It's not the most

elegant solution, but works. I suppose one could use constraints on the offset wall, just change the wing wall length. If I could create an opening family that could clean up with a profile that would be great too. But I don't see an opening family type to apply that to.

I did get the symbolic lines to work with doors. The symbolic lines have to be in the door family. Openings, I still have to draw the symbolic lines

after I add an opening. Openings should be able to use both surface (vertical) profiles as well as horizontal profiles that could have parameters to

control the geometry. That might have to be nested extrusion if compound. I haven't gotten that deep in the program yet.I know that basic geometry can be used to cut an opening.

Thanks,

David

You should draw a sketch of this opening thing. Or maybe a missed a prior example.  But i think whatever you want to do can be done, it sounds like it should be easy.

Yes the 3 walls that 'lunch' shows are good for the base part of the wall. That's what I have been doing as well but then as the walls go up the CMU continues and the brick turns to a thinner finish. I'm experimenting with more walls and / or stacked walls. Might need a top of brick reference plane or level.

It takes more time to render than to modelling...
