When you are in Sketch mode of the roof, you can define what lines you want with the slope, if this is what do you need....

I figured out how to get the sides of the roof on but I cannot connect them at the corners to make a continous roof.  If anyone has any solutions please let me know.

ALEROBER, what do you mean with "I cannot connect them at the corners to make a continous roof"?, join them?, if so, have you tried with the "Join Geometry" tool, but it would be easier if you post an image of your roof?

ALEROBER, what you´ve been doing incorrectly is that you are sketching two separeted roofs, you can do that roof in only one sketch (see images). I recommend you consult always your HELP menu.....

ALEROBER, as I told you before, it would be better if you post a kind of image in order to understand exactly what do you want...I suppose that you want somethig like this (image).....
