Architects 61 Pte. Ltd.

Founded in 1974, Architects 61 began its career in a time of exciting change and growth in Singapore. This was the same year in which the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) was set up, with the then primary task of comprehensively redeveloping the Central Area of the city, the hub around with commercial and banking activities would concentrate. As the City grew, so did Architects 61 (A61). Over the next two decades, the Company put itself firmly on the country’s architectural map with many landmark structures in the Central Business District. Close collaboration with many international design firms produced notable buildings such as the $340 million UOB Plaza (with Kenzo Tange Associates, 1992) and the $190 million Hitachi Tower and Caltex House (with Murphy Jahn Architects 1992). Such massive projects earned us a sound reputation for producing finely-detailed, well-constructed corporate towers. Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, A61 continued to grow and expand, including in its ever-growing portfolio prestigious projects such as the $800 million Raffles City Development (with IM Pei and Partners, 1986), The Concourse (with Paul Rudolph, 1993), UE Square (with Kenzo Tange Associates, 1997) and the Singapore Exchange Centre (with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, 1999). At the same time, the we began to develop our own in-house design philosophy, incorporating our international experience with our own pool of local design talent to produce notable works such as Lippo Centre (1992), Four Seasons Park (1994), The Heeren (1996), Anderson Green (1998), The Bayron (1998), Scotts 28 (1998) and Sengkang MRT Depot (2003). Other specialisations have also emerged, in particular, in the field of hotel restoration which began with the world famous Raffles Hotel (1992) in Singapore. Other prominent restoration projects include Raffles Hotel D’Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia (1998), Raffles Hotel Le Royal, Phnom Penh, Cambodia (1998) and The Fullerton, Singapore (2000) In 1992, Architects 61 Private Limited was incorporated to succeed the original partnership, bringing along with it new blood and energy. More recently, in 2002, the Board of Directors was reorganized under the leadership of our new CEO, Michael Ngu. With the ever changing needs of our clients and the construction industry, two new subsidiary companies were formed in 1998 to better cater to these growing needs. ID61 Private Limited today provides interior design whilst Management Services 61 Private Limited (MS61) was formed to offer Project Management services. Overseas offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Shanghai, China were also opened to provide a full spectrum of complementary services. Today, A61 has amassed a considerable portfolio and has been responsible for more than S$6 billion worth of completed projects encompassing over 30 million sq.ft floor area in Singapore alone. The knowledge and expertise garnered from the past three decades in practice has allowed us to fully service our clients both at home and abroad. We consistently improve our IT knowledge which, together with our dedication towards design, design development and quality management has always been our trademark and our commitment to first class architecture and practice.
