I have been using revit since 2003 and have never seen this.  When I enter 3d mode and have Shading with Edges selected everything is transparent.  WHY?  someone please pass along some valuable info on how I can change this b/c it is driving me nuts!

 Thanks!

coreed - Nothing is checked under transparent.  this is really mind boggling to me.  i am so used to being able to solve these little issues in this software and this one really has me stumpted.

Nope - transparent is not checked.  I appreciate your suggestions and if you think of any more send them along!  Until then I will be driving myself nuts wondering what this is all about!  haha.

Create a new 3D and see if you experience the same results...

I have created cameras and new views and the results are all the same.  Is there a particular process of "creating a new 3D view" that you are thinking about that I should try?

Okay just wanted to diagnose whether it was restricted to one view or global.

So its global.

Someone hasn't given the materials the building is using a transparency factor in your materials settings have they?

Nope.  I am the only one working in the file at this point and I have not set anything to transparent.  I am really lost as to why this is happening.  I am going to attach 2 images here.  1 is from the 3D view where everything is showing transparent.  The other is a camera that I placed where the image is coming in as shaded with edges.  So it must be a setting just within the 3D view.  Maybe I did not create a new 3D view the right way when you asked me to do that the first time.  What steps would you take to do that?  Thanks.

What are the phase settings of the current view?  Is everythign drawn on the same phase?  If not already, try setting the view phase to show complete, and make sure you are in the correct phase.  You may want to check that, and then check the graphic overrides under Settings, Phases.  For now, that is my guess....

From your first image it looks like the view is set to wireframe and the phase is set to be Show All.  I agree check your overrides in your phase settings...

The second image looks fine.  The corner element appears to be a mass and by default the mass material is transparent cyan...  Change the material of you mass or apply walls to its faces.

OK.  I switched from show all to show complete in the phase.  and it is in shaded with edges.  i am attaching an updated image b/c now it shows the materials but it is still looking wireframe.  is there somewhere else i should change the shading - i am doing it in the bar at the bottom left of the screen.  i also checked VV and there isn't anything selected as transparent!

also go to Settings ==>Phases on the pull down

in the Phasing dialog click on the Graphic Overrides tab and check the Material column and see what material is applied

You other 3D view looked fine so I'd be inclined to say that this one is a corrupt view.

Delete it, then click the 3D button at the top of screen to have revit generate a new {3D} view.

Chris,

has revit always let you delete your default 3d view and then create a new one by clicking on the 3d button.

if so if i have lied to loads of people telling them to "never mess around with the default 3d view too much, or else you can't get it back"

i can't belive i never tried this, well actually i thought i did try this and it didn't work. it may of been release 7

stupid of me!!!!!!!

but also funny

just wondering now what other very basic things i have missed!!!!
