Some kind of voting system separate to the current system for Wishlist items. There have been many great ideas and usefull requests posted in the Wishlist section, but apart from us, who reads them?? and how much impact do these requests have on Autodesk?? It's not enough to just winge or air your grievences and inadequacies regarding Revit. It would be good to see a unique system within the Wishlist forum where the true popularity and importance of an idea / request could be gauged, like a referendum. The most popular ideas / requests could be displayed on the home page of Revitcity in a separate section (similar to the gallery images), and may spend up to a week on the home page so that others can click on the item and vote (again similar to gallery images). Lets face it, more and more members join this site every day, which means that the number of posts is always growing, and the chances of missing out on giving or receiving help, or in this case, requesting some new functionality in Revit are increased. Apart from the above, a progress indication would also be great - IS AUTODESK DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS REQUEST. For example, a certain request receives the support of 2000 members while on a home page voting system, then what?? There needs to be a follow up. Talking to Autodesk reps as an individual is one thing, but there is power in numbers. A good voting system for the Wishlist section may give us that, once the voting results are passed on to Autodesk. Thankyou.

I like Mr GG's 'Next / Previous' Idea for Gallery images, this system could also be incorporated into the Wishlist voting system above. PS : Whenever you do a forum overhaul, you might consider separating it from the rest of the forum posts, and have a special link for such events, whereby the link remains in a promenant section on the home page for a given time. Otherwise it gets lost in all the other posts, and not everyone can contribute their ideas !!!

Sorry guys, I did notice this after I wrote that post. By the way, I don't want to sound like a total suck, but not many people seem to thankyou guys for the very good job you already do. I've watched the membership numbers almost double since I joined last year, and without the help I have received from the many knowledgable people who visit this site I would be absolutely (curse filter overload !!!). So well done on an already great site !!!!

hi, first i want to say thanks to everyone running this site; it is very helpfull. the only thing I can think to change in the forum is the ability to filter search results; when i have a technical issue to solve i search the forum for answers, it would be nice if you could filter the results by thread, it seems every post on every thread shows up. maybe there is a way to do this already and I havent seen it?

WINK is a free program - you can use to make tutorials with fast and easy - and if you use 256 colors you can have about 40 screen captures with resolution 800*600 and the tutorial will be about just 1 MegaByte...
Here is the adress to download free WINK:
http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

Install it - start it - decide what area you want to screen capture - use the Pause key to make the captures. Then insert some text to describe what you are trying to explan, Render and you will get a HTML-file and a FLASH-file. And looking at the tutorial you do not have to scroll any webpage - just click the next button on the FLASH-file...

OK! Have you got it? Have a try...

And my question - why not use WINK in the tutorials section on RevitCity?
The members sending in the two files - the HTML-file and the FLASH(.swf)-file and there will be really good tutorials easy to navigate and not many bytes to download... hjacobs have a try with WINK and then tell us what you think.... and I hope everyone else also will have a try with WINK... trying to help someone else to explain something in Revit or in some other program.

And another question - UBB code for searching RevitCity is it explained somewhere?
Here I will have a try --- see if I will succeed?

link to new search

OK! That was nice - but I cannot explain it here - it would have been much easier if I had been able to upload an image on this forum with UBB code I used. So hope it will be possible to upload images on all forums...

Something like this - except tjhe quation marks around this: [ and this one: ]
The other quotation marks are OK!

"["url=http://www.revitcity.com/search.php?keywords=walls&user_name_search=Mr GG&action=searchforum&start=0&rows=0&Submit=Search" target="_self""]"link to new search"["/url"]"

Hope you got it - easier using an image to explain it... but hopefully images are coming... for uploading to this Forum also...

AND just another question - Admin told us that we can search the Forums using boolean AND...
I had a try - searching with:
free AND models
but it does not function...

I think for the chat feature to be greater utilised there needs to be a better way of notifying when people are chatting. Maybe if the text was a bit bigger and when someone was chatting the text flashed...? Or even the ability to invite other online registered users to chat? My 2 Cents.

Yes, Mr Spot is right! as always...
I think he is the one most activ on RevitCity so I want him to be the first one on the User Ranking List. I believe it must be something wrong with the scoring then hjacobs and Admin having so many more scores than Mr Spot. Mr Spots all activity ought to make him the first one!!!

I quoted Mr Spot but the quotes have no UBB-tagging - so you have to do it yourself... better the quotes were UBB-tagged from the beginning,.

And something else.
Now you can see on the first page the five latest Forum Topics and the five latest Object Comments.
Object Comments are a really bad language... It is the five latest Gallery and Family Comments - I believe!!! images in the Gallery is not objects to me...

What you are missing on the first page are the latest reply in the five Forums on RevitCity.
Why not notify everyone on the first page about the latest reply in the five Forums:
General Discussion
Technical Issues
Community
Tips & Tricks
Wishlist

And somethiing more:
Explanations about how to use UBB-code in the Forums.

And I would like to have a comment on WINK-tutorials are welcome!
WINK is free and easy and fast to use and makes very small Flash tutorials.

Now it is not very much happening in the Tutorials section,
Why not a Tutorials Forum? And you can upload your tutorials directly to the Forum?

Possibility to use boolean AND searching on the Forums.

And as Mr Spot has suggested before - the last reply first on a topic.

And that we get some response from Admin on our suggestions...

"Possibility to use boolean AND searching on the Forums."

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone...we're working on improving everything.

Boolean searching is available on all the search systems... it uses "+" and "-".

For example searching families for "truck" will yield different results than "truck -trailor" or "truck +trailor"

Well I had a try searching for Families as Keywords I used truck +trailor and I got 3 Families and I had a try with trailor +truck and I got 13 Families and another try with truck + trailor and I got 14 Families I did not give up truck -trailor and there are 11 Families and another truck - trailor gives me 14 again trailor -truck only one!!! trailor - truck 14 again! truck -truck gives me 0 - that is correct! Well - hope everyone has got some humor... I believe it is better to use the Google style everyone hopefully already knows: truch trailor and that means truck AND trailor And this one I also find useful on Google: "truck trailor"

It would be nice to have a "similar threds" search. I find it quite usefull on other forums when I have difficulty trying to describe the information I am looking for. An example of a "similar threds" search is below: http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38999 I don't know if it is possible here, but i think it would be incredibly usefull. I am just getting in to revit and have found your site to be extreemly helpfull. Keep up the good work! -Marc

Would it make sense to rename and reorganize some of the forums?  Revit Building should be "Revit Architecture" and

Revit Systems would be "Revit MEP"?  The Wishlist forum might also be moved under each application because people

interested in only architecture would see just architecture wishlist items.  Just curious.
