In our company, I am the only one using Revit. I'm kinda used as the middle man between the salemen and the rest of the drafting crew. Sales comes in with the customers wants and wishes and i but them in color for them and keep my fingers crossed we get the contract. As I also am one of the drafters that do the permit drawings and material lists for our buildings, yet i have to do that in autocad cause everyone else is using that as well. I enjoy using revit and wouldn't mind if that was all i did. This set up has been working for our firm so far, but i think i'm gonna need a raise soon to keep me if what Mr.Spot says that people are finding it hard to Revit drafter. Couldn't hurt to use that for some angle on the raise right!!!

well im currently in high school (senior) and graduate this june. last year when i took architectual drafting it was my first introduction to revit. back then i think we had like 5.1 or 6.1 but after a few weeks we upgraded the computers and now we run v9. ok back to this year any way last week we had a compition for all the carrer tech classes in our region, and before that i was busy helping people with thier projects since they dont have that much exeprince with revit and neither does my teacher, just me. and the only other kid who knew at least as much as i did pissed off the teacher and is now doing all his drawings by hand in the office. and form that expreince i can see how a firm my go though a few CAD Mangers. a few times i was about ready to go off on some people. and i still manged to get my project done and get 1st and best of class. and just a couple of months ago i bought a student license so i can learn more about revit and improve my skills. after using AutoCAD 2yrs ago in basic drafting, i have since come to dislike it and love revit. just my 2 cents

I assumed Version was the version of revit you used when you were learning. And time was the time it took before you issued your first major project out of revit including documentation?

How long it took you to learn Revit by the time you could complete a real major project (presentation, documentation & submission) ? My firm has been pretty successful in converting to Revit. The biggest problem comes from the older people that don't want to change because it is changing. All our younger employing (me being one of them) like Revit and have learned Revit a lot better than any other AutoCad product (mainly ADT). I hate using AutoCad, I find it more confusing and not user friendly at all. As it has been said it to implement it properly you need some people devoted to setting up templates and libraries and then it helps to get some training rather than trying to train yourself or have some one in the firm train everyone.

The old timer refused to learn AutOCAD and give up manual drafting. I remember back in the 90s I was threaten by the senior draftsman for forcing them to learn new trade when they were about to retire. Same situation is happening now in the 2000s with Revit. I think the situation is even more complicated NOW as they have already invested considerable amount of time on the dinosaur AutoCAD. Good on you young man to pick up Revit. That is the future! Ask any Reviters at the forum. Are we?

seems to be the Wong and Spot show.... I had the opportunity to set up revit at my last firm, which was about a year and a half ago, and now the whole office uses revit. I think it was successful there because a couple of directors were 100% behind the process. I am currently trying to do the same thing again at my current firm, and its a bit hellish. Not much support. People seem to think its good, but its hard to find a couple of dedicated deciples. I'll get there though because im a determined curse and i can't document this $70m tower by myself forever. the support here is always great though....

" Hi Shalesie, Thank you for sharing with us your experiences on implement Revit. i notice that only with story coming from people like you that it give courage to others to learn and implement Revit. As a started on this thread, I guess it is my responsibility to keep track as I receive notification form RC. Mr. Spot is great. He has contributed a lot to this forum and this particular thread. As an experienced CAD Manager, sure he have a lot to tell us about this thread that matter him most. Anyway, Mr. Spot is from Australia. I am from Malaysia. You were right this thread has many responses from us as our AVATAR stand up! So if you want to standup, please include your avatar. Ha.... So please keep sharing with us your learning experience on Revit. Last week. I did a job search on Revit/Architect in Sydney, Australia. Guess what? Out of 20 ads, ONLY 1 looking for Architect with Revit, the rest ArchiCAD. The question is why REVIT is still not that popular as ArchiCAD - because it is hard to learn and implement?

I guess you aren't looking in the right places then... I probably receive about 2 or 3 emails a week of architecture firms looking for Revit Staff. Also, 95% of the jobs on this site would be asking for Revit experience. Trust me, if they are using Revit then they are more than likely ready to hire more people with Revit skills.

Hi ALL, Please help me to update the below survey. Lately, I have a few new Revit user friends complaining that their bosses expected them to master and use Revit in 2 weeks. I told them it is impossible given my own experience. I really pity those guys. So I need to compile a broader picture survey to show the bossess here or even in your country that new user need time to learn Revit. So far we only have 5 users in the WORLD! Thank you in advance. Hi, I am a brand new Revit MEP user. Our company has gone in to this whole hog and we are training roughly 30% of our staff currently. Hoping to get lots of info and help from this site. From what I can tell and have learned so far, Revit is a VERY powerful tool that should only get better with more developement time. Granted the electrical portion of MEP is lagging behind the rest (my discipline), my hope is that it will catch up soon... Mark
