Hello, perhaps someone could help.  I've tagged the walls in plan for two different stacked walls but the tags want to show the same number.  I've checked each wall's contruction and they are close in nature but they were created as two distinct stacked walls.  (One element is the same while the other is different).  I then thought that it may have to do with the cut plane... but it is higher than the elevation of the lower (same) entity.  Any suggestions as to what I'm missing???

I have had the same problem. What I found is that the tag is tagging just one wall assembly of the tagged wall. I have yet o find a solution to this. I've even tried tabbing through the walls to see if it will tag the wall as a whole.

I think the problem lies in that th stacked wall assemblies do not carry a 'Mark' parameter. Maybe some creative Project Parameterizing and custom tags can solve this?

Edit:

I looked into this. What I found is that you can not add any parameters into the Stacked Wall Family types. You can however, enter a "Stacked Wall Mark" parameter into the Basic Wall Family types. Make a stacked wall tag that uses this parameter et voila!

using arch 9.0

struggling with tagging stacked walls (insanity) and came across this old thread. I made the wall tag, but it does not read the parameter value in the basic wall.

has anyone made any progress on this one yet? this tread in about 2 years old.

Stacked walls are made from simple walls and each portion of the stacked wall will tag according to the simple wall at that portion.  The stacked wall does not have a tag of it's own.

Hmmm...thanks for the reply, but not sure if i agree. the beauty of wall tags is to help the general contractor, and they work well when each wall type has a unique tag. He can look at a floor plan, go to the wall type sheet and determine and price how to build that wall. if i am understanding your suggestion, stacked walls will have two seperate tags to identify them (?), which will be the same tag as a simple wall shown elsewhere (?). so he will reference the wall type sheet and not know to refer to a stacked wall condition because the wall tag is for a simple wall. this is a guareenteed RFI and source of confusion (i.e. cost to client, poke in the architects eye). Clearly, Revit does not understand how wall tags are used in practice after reading the goofy work arounds that architects are supposed to embark on.

stacked walls need to be tagged as a unigue wall type.

thanks,

You could try to break up the wall prior to tagging it.  Just select the wall and right click and select break up in the menu.

Yeah stacked walls should definitely be taggable, its crazy that they arent!

We dont have time in our project to muck around with parameters etc so we had to create a dumb wall tag with text fields and fill it in type 1 + type 2.

its a dangerous flaw in the software, in terms of costing.

Coolness and others.  Stacked walls are really just stacked walls.  Different walls stacked one above the other.  Each portion of wall will tag correctly for that portion - no need to break them up.

For those that think a stacked wall should tag as one wall type, I would like to see the wall legened that will show how that works.  Think about it!

Guys,

Any chance to add instance parameter to stacked wall?

I will repeat this.... Stacked walls are really just stacked walls.  Different walls stacked one above the other.... think of them being similar to a group.  They carry no information - only their seperate components have any information.

Late entry.

I don't agree with you WWHUB.  You are missing the point.  In revit, yes they are two seperate walls, but in a set of construction documents they are one.  You do not tell a contractor to place wall type A on top of wall type B, that is just not how the world works.  You are thnking of it from a computer programing side, not as from a architectural side.

Cadman,

With Revit, you have the opportunity of building one wall with various parts.  If you want to do that, then do that!  That wall can be tagged as one wall type.  But stacked walls are different.  They are not one wall type, they are stacked walls of different types, each having it's own identity.

Your choice.

Cadman,

I don't think Hub would argue what you are saying as far as the CD side goes...and I'm pretty sure he logically understands a stacked wall.

On a sheet, perhaps they should be tagged individualy, but the technical side prohibits this...like hub is stating.

Sorry Brett but based on his quote from Feb. he does not."For those that think a stacked wall should tag as one wall type, I would like to see the wall legened that will show how that works.  Think about it!"Based on this quote it is MY opinion that WWHUB has zero or very little Architectural back ground.  It is one thing to sit and draw a partition type, it's something completely different to draw that partition and know how it is Bid and constructed in the field. Many of the Revit issues I have come across are issues where the programmers of Revit don't fully understand how things are Bid or constructed in the real world.  If you are going to be bitter in every post you make and at the same time not understand the full breath of the question which is presented, don't waste my time.  A simple, "Revit can not currently tag stacked walls" would suffice.

Not all of us are CAD techs.  Some of us actually have to deal with clients and contractors and defend our documents.  These guys who ask to have the stacked walls tagged, ask for a reason not for WWHUB to bash them b/c he doesn't understand the theory behind it.

How about simply duplicating base wall type, naming it unique and giving it a type mark different from the stacked wall.
