What about the winner of each contest becoming program writer for the next contest? Kinda like a game of horse.. minus the complexity of spelling. =] The winner could be the head judge and/or pick 2 other people to help with the judging. I believe the winner of each contest should get a brief posting about him/her and the project that one it. Check out miata.net to see what they do with their "Miata of the Month" selection for an idea on that. I know we can't post something that long but it's recognition. Maybe we could also ask site admin to add something about Contest winners get points added to their profile rating. Also, I have a server with a little bit of space (Probably only enough for one contest's content) that we can utilize if needed. Unfortunately it's on a 6meg cable connection so I'll leave that up to you guys as to when and whether to use it. Also, some concerns. Will we just be submitting/judging screen shots of the project? Will it be like a car show where you have "Best in Show", "Best Night Rendering" etc? So we have a category "best formed model," and if so does that mean submitting .rvt files to a judge? This can all become very HD intensive if we're not careful. Also, if you guys want a good template to go by for contests like this check out worth1000.com. It's essentially one big photoshop contest! Not to mention a great site to pass the time. Let me know.. I'm ready to start it! =]

that was what i was thinking rkitect. having a section for the winner. the info could include how they got started, specs of computer, and how they came up with the rendering.

Hey guys, sorry havent had time to check out those places you suggested... But yeah, I think having a few (perhaps as few as three) people to judge the comp would be the easiest way to pick the winner. Perhaps picking a winner and two 'honourable mentions', and the three of them could judge the next comp or something. However in the early stages it could be hard, because the judges couldnt compete and Im not sure what kind of numbers we'd have.... How will the entries be displayed? I was thinking as a couple of straight .jpg images, and having whatever text and notes displayed as part of the image. Kinda high end perhaps, I imagine they would be mainly renderings and exported screenshots of the views in revit, and then arranged into larger presentation pannels in photoshop or other image editing program. We would probably need to say what people could and couldnt do (photoshop yes, Viz and Max no or something), but its going to be pretty hard to limit entries to being pure revit... Having just read that paragraph though, is this method of presentation ok by you guys? Should we have it so image based? Perhaps having people submitting .rvt files only, with arranged sheets is better? And different categories would be cool but perhaps biting off a little more than we can chew at this stage I think. Would be cool to move into that though In regards to postups, I think there should be a paragraph or so to accompany the entry explaining the project in Architectural terms, and perhaps the more 'how-to' information could be on a separate thread, like Q & A's. But I see what you mean allstate, perhaps there could be a dedicated thread for the winner every contest, it could include the winning entry and people could ask what questions they wanted... And Ive been trying to think how the best way to present the compettion entries would be, so far I can think of the following two options... 1) Trying to use the gallery. Perhaps limiting every entry to two or three gallery images, but this method is pretty hard to properly govern without help from the Lords of Revitcity, and images will probably get lost in the many pages of everyday stuff... So Im not sure using the gallery will work too well... 2) Having a dedicated thread ('Contest Entries' or something), where every contestant posts a paragraph about their submission plus 2 or 3 (or whatever) .jpg images for people to download and view from their own comps. Thus entries only need a single post, nice and tidy. Im not sure the second option is ideal, having the images actually there to view - or at least thumbnails would be better (hence suggesting using the gallery) but its a much neater way of displaying entries I think.

well..call me dumb... i have no idea how to use photoshop..and i don't have viz. I agree with the part about the honorable mentions, and winner being the judges of the next competitions. I believe that the images should be posted in the gallery or a dedicated thread, and just renderings. (Although Floorplans may be the real deciding factor..my concern is that someone will create something unique, and actually want to create it, and can't cuz someone else stole their design.) Not saying that it would happen or putting blame or anything...back to the renderings of what should be posted as contest requirements: 4 exterior views and one presentation/ 3D rendering. just giving some ideas and thoughts. (2) Problems with previous comment on how to post the projects. 1-People like me only have 6.1 and would not be able to open most .rvt files. 2-Image only postings would need to be controlled so that we have comparable content. IE: Entrants must provide (4) Hidden Line Elevations, (1) Hidden Line Plan for every level, (1) Rendering from the angle of your choice and (1) View (rendered or not) of your choice best representing your entry. The judges now have content to compare each project with. The hidden line drawings allow the judges to compare actual architectural content (spatial flow, order, proportions, etc) while the renderings and presentation view of choice allows the judge to compare creative content and revit aptitude. Personally, I think this is a good place to start. Also, I believe the projects need to be straight up Revit EXCEPTING the (1) view of choice to represent the project. I think this view needs to show off the entrant's creativity for marketing and presentation and should allow any type digital manipulation to that view. Also, if you take a look at my gallery I have set up, I think it would be nice to have a set up like this: http://gibsonhouse.dyndns.org/famfoto/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=269 With an album for each contestant's entry and each album would contain the images posted. I don't know if we can get the admin's to allow us to do something like this or not, but it would be nice. Post edited on 2006-04-13 07:48:49

Just took a course on how to use revit last month and convinced my boss to let me work on a few small interior renovation jobs on it. Not very experienced but I would be interested to push myself to get better using the program. Will be posting a lot of questions on the forum though, and hopefully you guys will be able to help me out. Thanx

There is a student hotel design competition using revit through ACSA, and Autodesk sponsered a one year license for each entrant. I think a competition would be a great idea.

Gerry, I don't think Photoshop will be a requirement to participate. Also, the Album idea was just an idea I was throwing out to give an idea of how to organize the contestant's entries. I don't think it is possible to create an album similar to the ones I posted on revitCity. Unless I missed something somewhere.(?)
