I think that the highschool level contest or any contest for that matter, should have a downloadabled word form giving the contest description i.e (design a fire dept. with a 4 bay aparatus room, storage, bunks, meeting and dispatch.; the word from could be like a 2 page describing the requirements of the building, and a siteplan.) I guess the judging would be based on who met the criteria best, design, practical?... things like that. Off subject. (I talk alot) I've been in a quite many competitions, not obsessed with Revit or Architecture, its just something that fits me...Its experience. To hammer87...bragging rights can go along ways..for example you say "hey teacher, this site is used by highschool to prof. people who use revit. i entered a contest, and here's the ratings and advice they gave." It isn't much but at least it shows the person who your currently working for that you've got interest. To Mr. Spot. You said that the contest would have to be ran by the users. What if you and other advanced people run it?..just an idea.

Since alot of us have ideas and are beginning to agree on things. Lets try to get this actually started, although the only gain would be experience and bragging rights, it's still worth it.

Comes down to TIME... Of which mine is very limited. I try to help out on this site as much as possible, as i find this is where most of the new users who are having the most problems come to. But when you are trying to manage a full time job, a wedding, 3 forums, building my own home and graduating architecture its all a bit overwhelming. I'd like to, but i really don't think i could devote the required amount of time to such a project. My 2 cents.

Hey fellas, I think a Revitcity contest would be awesome! But Im not sure we should rely on the Lords of Revitcity at al initially, if they think our contest is worthwile and there is enough participation, they'll let us know Im sure. So perhaps monthly, a nominated person writes out a brief (it could be as detailed or 'brief' as the person decided), people express interest via a dedicated forum, then on a set date all the people interested recieve the brief and its posted for all to see (I reckon only the people who expressed interest proir to recieving the brief are contenders) ... one month later, on another dedicated thread (with a poll), all the contenders post a paragraph plus images about what they've done, people rate them for a week, then the winner is decided. Perhaps there are three threads for contenders, one for each class (highschool, practice or other). I know its pretty brief, you guys think something like this would work? A template thread could be used, every month a different person could be in charge of the comp.... Post edited on 2006-04-09 21:57:57

Hey I think someone should just come up with a brief and get the ball rolling. If you guys thought it sounded ok then we could use my last post as the template, figure out any rules as we go along cause I dont think there will be (or need to be) many rules at all. So get brief writing fellas, even if we dont use yours first, we could use them for round two. Perhaps the person who is going to write the first breif start a thread titled "Revitcity Project Contest - T1" or something (T1 means that it its like the first one, next month it will be T2, T = Trial). All interested people post on that thread (no questions on that thread or anything! Just "yep Im in" or "I'd like to participate"Winking. Keep all questions to this thread (or another one with a more appropriate name). - If any admin person is reading this and someone starts that thread ("Revitcity Project Contest - T1"Winking could you make sure that no questions (or answers) last long there? move them or delete them so only the "yep Im in" posts stay there... What do you say guys? If someone feels suitably inspired, spark it up. Else you could email your briefs to me and I'll start the relevant thread in a day or so to get the ball rolling. I wont have time to write the first breif but I could do the admin. Who wants to write the first brief? Post edited on 2006-04-11 16:37:14

I agree. My concern is... who is going to come up with a brief? Will it be someone who is pro. and will be interested in coming up with an idea of some commercial or residential design for highschool / college students, with some requirements?

I personally dont think the brief is too important, sure it has to outline some stuff but I enjoy working to constratints, wether tight or loose. But yeah, I guess we dont want to make it too technical for the highschool students or too mickey-mouse for the practices... And another thing, Im not sure its quite honest if the person who writes the brief should participate... Mr. Spot, you mentioned that you had a little bit too much on your plate to participate, do you think you could spark the competition up by writing the first brief? Its kinda fitting I think, Mr. Spot is quite an intergral personality to this site and it would be awesome to have him christen this series of contests... Im happy to admin the first contest, do you guys think its fair if the person running the contest participates? Post edited on 2006-04-11 19:15:32

I wan't trying to say that I was going to write the brief and participate. I was just saying that someone should and giving an idea of how the outline should be. I do agree with you on both parts of what you mentioned about the brief and Mr.Spot. Maybe if he can't do it can we get "Admin" to write it or have Mr.Spot to recommend somebody to e-mail.?

haha, sorry I wasnt meaning to implicate you, I didnt think you wanted to write the brief and participate - that comment by me was not supposed to be related to you at all! Perhaps I could spark up the official thread now (before we have the brief) and let people put their names down, so it can be all go when we recieve it (from whoever ends up writing it). In two nights Im leaving town for a week, I could open the thread before then and that could be the 'application time', the contest starts when I get back and distribute the brief to the people who have put their names down... think thats a plan? As an afterthought, if there is anyone out there who is more stats minded than me, they could perhaps keep a record of how many cometitions each person has entered, and work out their rankings and stuff... I dunno, could be a bit over the top...
