Polaris,
To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to keep this from happening. Here is the link to the final family I made. You can see how I solved the problem by programing in parametric ends. If your spacing is different though you would need to set it up as instance parameter or duplicate it for each size.
I was not sure what you were using it for so I am not going to comment of weather there is a better way.

Ok thanks Scuba. Ive had to stop working on it today and go back to another project anyway so... I won't be messing with it for a day or so. If I figure anything out I'll let everyone know.
