Hi 10456,

Are you saying that while you are working on level 0, you want to see beams undernearth level 1, as in ceiling plan view?

If that's the case, you can place your cut plane at 3600, if the buttom of beams at 3500, top of beams at 4000.

Then change the structural framing line type to dashed and line color to red, for easy to read. This way you can work on level 0, at the same time see the beams. After you placed walls, change cut plane to 1200, then you can see all doors and windows.

Hi David,

Yes, that's what I mean. The link I earlier gave with the video was about how to achieve this permanently. The way you tell me is actually the same idea. I did temporarily change the cut plane to see the beams. After that I did change the linework, like you said. I did set the cut plane back to normal and voila! I can see the beams in my normal (coordination) view with all doors and windows available.I even never have to change cut plane again to 3600, because now with 1200 I still can see the beams and even move them SmileDoes everybody use this method because they encounter this problem? Or is it just me? That would be strange...

You're not the only one exasperated with this problem. I too had issues with the display rules concerning structure. I use Revit primarily for residential however the developers focused on the needs of "commercial architecture" therefore viewing the structure above is not the norm. The best solution is to open your beam family and "create" a model line (structural framing-projection) extending from the bottom of the beam for about 6' in length. Re-load and place beam at proper height and as long as the "cut plane" hits this new model line extending below the beam, it should be visible. I think this is what the poster a few threads back was trying to explain but I too couldn't open his file to confirm.

if you draw your beam on level 3, i set view depth about -12" and bottom the same BUT you might have the detail level set at CORSE. change to FINE to see beam option is lower left of screen....

this is very simply, change your view discipline from architectural to coordination.

@ Dgodfrey:

That's really a good one, but I had problems drawing that one, because I couldn't get the lines showing up in view. But, that's my problem, I will try it again and post the result.

@ design4building:

The detail level is not the problem. I did rape that button Smile

@ Manny:

I did rape that button too Smile That's really not the problem Sad

Hi Dgodfrey,

I did try it again. That method is really not working here.

I attached my model (revit 2013) with the beam in it.please look at it if you can and tell me if you see any settings wrong...

thank you,

Sef

This is an old thread but I was having problems with seeing the actual concrete beam in an RCP. It ended up being a super-simple fix (isn't it always?) that required the following:

In your Properties dialog box for the view change "Show Hidden Lines" to "All". If you have a view template set up, then change it in there.
