I need to have an opening on the 2nd floor.  My building is a 2 foor building. I need for the stairs to go from floor 1 to floor 2 only. Each floor is 9 feet high.

The stairs are a straight 45 degree angle. What are the steps to create that opening? After I create the opening which tool do i use to create the stairs.  Is it boundary, run, or riser?

SDtairs do not create openings.  Your best choice is just to create an opening in your floor sketch.  Edit your floor.

can I have some more details WWHub? Heres what I did,

1. - selected the 2nd floor 2.- clicked on edit boundary, 3.- sketched the opening, and then pressed "Finish mode"(green check mark).  After I did that, there is no opening on the 2nd floor.  I have looked at 4 or 5 different tutorials on how to create a basic floor opening, and each tutorial creates an opening differently, and it seems like the tutorials skip a few initial steps.

Your process is correct as you posted it..

Do you also have a ceiling?  If so, you will have to sketch a hole in that as well.

All you have to do is sketch your floor outline the way you want it then sketch another outline inside your floor outline that will be the stair opening.  It is all part of the same sketch

yes I have a cieling on the 2nd floor.  The tutorial says to use the shaft opening command, but this tool from what I understand is for creating multiple openings at the same time.  I used the "shaft opening command" and it not only created and opening in the 2nd floor but created an opening through the foundation. That is not what I am looking for.  I just want an opening on the 2nd floor.

I am not sure sure which tools I need to use.  Heres a list of tools that may apply to me:  vertical opening, face opening, edit boundary, run.  Not sure of the sequence of commands.

"Heres a list of tools that may apply to me: vertical opening, face opening, edit boundary, run."  NO

You will do as we said.  Edit your floor and add another boundry where your stairs are (like the picture attached in my previous post), then Edit you ceiling and add another boundry where your stairs are (will look similar to my picture attached in my previous post for the floor)

Click on your floor and and EDIT BOUNDARY, magenta lines will show up showing your floor outline, all you have to do is draw lines inside of those (where you want the opening) and you will get your opening.  It is the same process for the ceiling.

If you don't know how to create a floor you need to spend some time with your HELP

I need to determine what size opening is appropiate for my stairs on the 2nd floor.  Here are the details:

Total run of stairs = 13'-9"

Floor height = 9'-0"

Cieling hieght = 7'-0"

width of stairs = 3'-0"

12" carpet floor

What numbers do you come up with for the size floor opening for the stairs?

Also, The angle of the stairs is a straight 31.53 degrees from 1st floor to 2nd floor.

Cut a section through your stair, then draw a detail line from the top of one tread to the next and offest it 7' up to find your minimum opening clearance.  With your dimensions I believe it is around 14'-0 3/8" long to get your desired head clearance with a 4" floor slab.  It will differ depending on your floor thickness.
