Hi,
I was watching a webcast about revit for interiors, and I was surprised when the presenter linked to a CAD drawings and was clicking on the walls which transformed immediately to 3D! I didn't know we can do that with Revit. I always traced on top of walls to create the revit 3d walls. Here's the link incase anyone is wondering what Am I talking about. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/oc/offer/form?id=18472993&siteID=123112&ch=EM&src=AEMIV&mktvar001=461701&mktvar002=461701
it will ask you to fill out a form to be able to see it (which I don't like) you'll have to redo the form if you closed the window by mistake :s
The thing is that I tried doing that in Revit, but couldn't find out how she did it..how can you create the walls in Revit from a linked CAD dwg. without having to trace over the cad walls the traditional way? Am I missing something? :S

I did not watch the linked video but I would guess she used the pick line tool.

If you have a cad plan, it's not a bad way to start, with an underlay... especially for a project like a reno. But it sets a dangerous precedent in offices which are trying to transition from cad to revit. because before you know it, the "official" and "current" plans and elevations remain in .dwg form.

I know dinosaurs that like to do SD in autocad and as they draft their designs I've mocked them up in Revit. They are always blown away that I can recreate their linework into a 3d model in minutes. My secret... If they arent already polylines in cad i convert them, then in the wall command in Revit I select pick line and hover over different areas while pressing Tab until the entire area highlights. BAM!!! instant wall layout.

Just remember to lay in some Revit dimensions before you go to far using the CAD file as a base. I find a lot of CAD drawings that are not rally square and thus parallel objects created in this way will not dimension in Revit.
