After drawing a floor plan in its entirety, can you then go back and automatically somehow add all the room/space bounardies within all bounding objects at one time?  We're in the process of tracing over CAD backgrounds and would like the ability oto quickly add all the room boundaries.  Any response will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

G. Williams

You say "draw a floorplan".  << Do you mean just 2D linework?  If so, then you have no choice but too add room boundry lines.  If you used Revit walls, then your good because Revit walls are already room bounding (unless you switched that off).

What would probably help is to draw a closed polyline in one layer (Boundary command in Autocad) in your CAD file before you import it to Revit. Once in revit, you can then hide all other layers and keep the Boundary lines and trace a wall by the pick line command in Revit. Of course, you have to delete some duplicate wall when you use the Tab in pick lines command.

WWHUB & mhans, thanks for responses.  To clarify, we did trace over a CAD background using revit walls and I do understand that the walls are already room bounding.  My main question has to do with adding "rooms" (from the room & area tab in the ribbon) at one time.  Is there a "add rooms to all boundaries without rooms" command similar to the "tag all not tagged" command?

Thanks in advance for your time & help.  Much appreciated.

That would be a nice feature for RAC2013.

No such feature .... but it is pretty simple just to point into the middle of each room.

Thanks again guys.  I was hoping that wasn't the answer, but we'll do what we have to do.  We're in the process of "revitizing" over 1 million sqaure feet of existing building space, and it would be lovely to be able to place all those at once.  Grant it, we'd still have to go back and adjust the room tag names, but just hoping for some more automation.  Maybe in 2015.

Wow, a million square feet! Is it single story? I guess you are not interested of gong in each room and defining it's properties, for now, here's your workaround.

If you haven't started putting Rooms, somewhere in your drawing area or in another file, make a grid of rooms (ex. 10x10). Make as many as you want. Select the all the room, use Filter, and copy-paste it to your actual rooms. Of course there will be duplicate of rooms depending on how smaller than 10x10 your actual rooms are. You can repeat the pasting to cover all the area. You decide on the grid and where to place them. This works also if you have a 2nd floor. You still have to go back to each room in case there are duplicates. But that said, you can easily detect that through the warnings. See screen shot.

Here's what you'll get after pasting.
