How to avoid the problem:... Be careful with your selection sets - Always look at the filter.

How to find the problem.  A properly cut section (depth iI assume was your problem) usually works to see these things.  A scope box 3D view would also work.  <<< Limit the box to the room limits in height.  That would have also shown this wall.
