I am having issues with my building elevations.  I can see through my wall and see my roof plane.  I can also see through my metal coping and see masonry veneer.  My view settings are set to hidden line mode.  This should not be happening.  I am baffled!

Your sure you have not over-ridden these items in view to make them transparent?  Make another elevation and see if it is OK.... If it is, then you have over-ridden by element.

If your roof is sketched to the outside face of the wall, you will see it.

do you have any dwgs linked into the project? sometimes dwgs cause elevations to go wireframe if they have dynamic blocks and proxies in the file

Thank You Alabaster 2513.  That solved the problem.  Thanks to everyone.

I am having the same problems.  ALL elevation views are showing in wireframe although the views are set to hidden lines.  My model contains no linked AutoCAD files.  The last AutoCAD file I used was an insertion of a site plan for purposes of "picking" the lines to create Revit Line work.  FYI, none of my objects or walls were overridden by view to display in wireframe

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

It may be a video card problem.  Turn off hardware acceleration.

WWhub:

A few more observations I've made since my post:  Not all items are displaying in wireframe; for example, I am using a masking region in my elevations to hide the foundations and create a grade line.  The masking region is not transparent, but does become transparent in a true wireframe display setting.  Additionaly, I can not see through the entire building (for example, the windows on the other side of the building are not visible - I'd say objects within the building approximately 40' inside the building are visible, and those objects too are displaying wireframe.

Turning graphics acceleration off did not work.

Thanks

I did restart Revit

Revit 2013

Update Release 2

Another side note.  I saved an archive of this file on July 30th.  When I open that file, there are no display problems, so it's apparent that there is something going on with my working file.  Something happened between July 30th and today.  I would lose a LOT of work if I were go to back to that file.

Possible problems:

  • Changed VG in view templates setting some categories to transparent
  • Changed material properties
  • A filter has been applied
  • Your file is corrupted - did you audit?

Create new elevations with no template ....

Thanks for your continued help.  I have not found any of your possible problems to be the cause.

What I have just discovered (and maybe this will ring a bell with you) is that the "Far Clip Offset" seems to be the depth at which the building is displaying wireframe.  When I select the Elevation marker symbol in my project, and adjust the Far Clip Offset, all objects outside of that offset are not visibile.

Far clip offset is just that....how deep your view is. It has no affect on the transparency issue.

On elevations and sections, we tell our users to adjust this so that Revit only has to deal with items that could actually be seen.  In your instance, you said you could not see the windows on the other side of your building.  Why would you want to in a normal elevation?  The depth of elevation and section views will show in plan as a dashed area that you can adjust if the view is set to "clip with line" or "clip without line".

Did you do as I suggested and create a view without a view template?

I wouldn't want the windows on the other side to show up - I was simply pointing out the peculiarity of that fact.  At that time, I didn't understand why I couldn't see through the whole building if it was displaying in wireframe.  It makes sense now that I thought about the far clip offset.  I didn't think there was anything in those settings that controlled transparency, but thought it worth mentioning.

I did create a new view with no view template - same thing.  In fact, none of my elevation views have a view template assigned to them.

I have been communicating with the company we purchase our software from (they have product support as well) about this same issue.  They weren't able to figure out what was wrong (even after going through my model and are sending it on to Autodesk.

I'll let you know what I find...for future referece.  In the meantime, please let me know if you think of anything else.

Thanks!
