To make that form, and make sure that the curves that you are describing are armonic, use the radius of the (arc 1) as a guide to snap the center of the next (arc 2).
That works for both concave and convex curves, the extrusion you want to make follows that same rule.
If you need to describe it in a CD, the best choice is curves described by arcs. Check the dwg

thanks nastyclown- these are pretty babies- but how do
they lead to a curve where a line smoothly changes radius?
probly need a geometry book like Hub says..
any ideas that pop up will be greatly appreciated..
