You can use 3 letters. I didn't know that. Well you learn something everyday. This would be perfect for the tools they split into two with 2010 now. For example, Mirror is now only defaulted to picking an axis and you have to select a different tool to draw the axis. Even though I set the two up to 'MM' and 'MX'. Tools that have been split up could now be three letter works, i.e. 'MM' and 'MMX' That way it's still the same command with another letter. Just an idea of how I might use three letter commands. Thanks for the info.

lorne ... as with all things that are ribbon... you have to learn where to look... there is a pull-down to the right of the mirror that gives you the option of pick a line or draw one....

WWHub, yea I konw where it is, I am getting used to the Ribbons (althought I don't like them). So that is why I use shortcuts. I was merely just giving an example of how one could use the three letter shortcuts. Mirror is one I came up with. I am used to using the MM command then selecting the drawing option rather than starting on a different tool. But again this was just an example. Thanks,Lorne

" Eventhough it is meant to be shortcut keys, you can also use three keys if you wish. For example, if "CS" is already assigned for CREATE SIMILAR, you can use "CSM" for CHECK MEMBER SUPPORT. If you run out of alphabets in Keyboard shortcuts, numbers can also be used. (I am sure all of you know!!) I prefer using keboard shortcuts as much as possible. " So I tried this for Room (RM), Room Tag (RMT), and Room Separation Line (RMS). Turns out for Room (RM) it doesn't work for just RM, you have to press enter to end the shortcut. Which makes sense but is kind of annoying. Just an FYI for those trying this method. Lorne

Lorne, I agree that might be annoying to press ENTER after two letters everytime. Since I have practised by hitting ENTER on the numeric pad (desktop) with the right thumb by the side of the mouse, it is easier for me being a right hander!

" Well I haven't done too much to mine, but I have right clicked on switch windows(under view tab) and put that on my quick access toolbar. I have more customized my keyboard shortcuts. I have that .txt file open all the time and whenever I run into a shortcut I want I add it. My shortcuts in 2009 were pretty extensive and I lost them all  Oh well, now they will be better than before. I am bummed you can't customize the ribbons as extensively as AutoCAD. Create custom ribbon panels, etc. Maybe int 2011. "

After assingning shortcuts and saving the file, you need to restart the Revit program to allow shortcuts to work.

Allen, Did you get your shortcuts working? I can help if you have questions. I have also been trying to figure out a way to link the .txt file to an excel sheet so when it's updated so is the excel sheet. So I can print a cheat sheet for my coworkers. But the excel forums aren't as good as Revit City, hehe. So I just gotta wait patiently. Unless someone here knows how to link it? I know how to import it but there's not linkage?

I dont know if anybody knows this but i just found it out. If you are wanting to have seperate categorys in your ribbon for different types of elevations, such as interior, or exterior. You can take your normal elevation tag and duplicate it and call it interior elevations, and it will automatically make a new category in your ribbon for interior elevations. same thing goes for if you want to seperate sections, into building sections and wall sections. now does anybody know how you could apply this same concept into plans?

AllenBall, A little confused as to how you are doing this... Are you talking about applying this change to the RIBBON or the PROJECT BROWSER...? I know the Ribbon's View Tab has on the Create panel the Elevation tool with the drop-down choice between ELEVATION and a FRAMING ELEVATION. Is it here you are saying you could add an interior elevation choice? In either case, I am not sure how you are doing what you suggest can be done. Is there another manner by which you could explain? I would like to know what it is you are meaning to do, even if I feel I do not want to implement it; I would still like to see what's capable of being done with customizing Revit's Out-of-the-box tools.
